May 15 to Jun 8

So ... we've been "working" on the final project for this course.

It wasn't until today that I realized just how many Youtube videos of nothing were being watched by the iPads ...

and how much texting was going back and forth between the students, completely silently.

So, today we separated and I had the students lay the cellphones down and ... all are typing their guts out as I type this.

You are teaching me how to teach you, I'm sorry to say.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday May 2

So today we finished the resumes - I'll take a proofread of them for tomorrow.

We spent today looking through the various job sites to find jobs which might be something the students might be interested in applying for in real life.

Next time we will be working away on cover letters to help us look better.

In the last few minutes, we read this:

The resume expert is coming to help us out Tuesday April 24th.

Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday April 19

Tuesday and Wednesday we worked on our resumes for applying to real life jobs.

The school's resume expert will be in next Tuesday, April 24th to see them and work on each one of our resumes.

Wednesday and Thursday we will be working U3A9 ... the 15 statements that follow this format:

U3A9 Assignment

Using the information obtained from completing High School Stories and using the information from your own experiences in schools, complete a Personal Learning Plan. This plan will consist of fifteen (15) specific statements that you will make a commitment to follow for the remainder of this school year.

Two Sample Statements for a Personal Learning Plan:
1.    I will give a specific amount of time (about 30 minutes) to homework or reading every day. I will do this in a quiet area without distractions. If I do not have enough homework to cover the time period, I will spend the time reading.
2.    I plan to spend more time speaking to teachers about my work. I plan to ask more questions about things I do not understand. If I am absent, I plan to ask teachers for the work that I missed. By doing this, I will become a stronger advocate for myself.
3.    …..

Monday to Thursday April 12

This was an odd week, with the OSSLT taking place and a few other interruptions in the library, too.

In any case, these days we've been working on exploring pathways during secondary school and after secondary school.

Here is the .pdf version of the powerpoint slides we went through and talked about today.

Here is the assignment to be handed in:

U3A8a

From the listed Pathways / discussed pathways from today, is there a place outside of regular school that you would or could see yourself doing in the future?

Why or why not?

Friday April 6

So, today we are going to be poking around on this site here:  Plan your career.

Do the short quizzes and let the people working on the OSSLT Prep do their thing.

Thursday April 5th

Today we chatted and worked on who is on our respective networks. The paper is handed in should resemble this one:

We did also do a write up of this network assignment ...we called it "U3A3a and b"

We will keep working on these ideas and networking as we go through the rest of the course.

We need to read this for the last question of U3A1 "TEAMWORK SKILLS"

Here is the link

and here is U3A3:

Tuesday, April 3, 2018

Tuesday April 3

That was a long weekend.

Today we helped with other work, and then went on to finish the U3A2 Powerpoint slides on Interview Tips.

I was also able to show my students how to share that slideshow with me using AirDrop from the iPads to my Macbook. We are cool, my mom says so.

In any case, we had to backtrack a little and I handed out U3A1, which is about Teamwork today. We will continue with that tomorrow.

Hope today is awesome!

Thursday March 29

Yeah ... we ran into issues.

Mainly software ones, but some "electrical problems between the ear lobes".

Meh, it's ok. We worked on the presentations again today.

Y'all need to get these done.

On to Tuesday!

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Wednesday March 28

Just seeing if I can park this here

So, if you cant watch the video, it's a "Do's and Don'ts for a job interview"

Essentially, what I'm getting you to do is put together a set of slides that do this:

Friday, Monday and Tuesday

Friday we did the visit to the Food Prep course.

The pizza was awesome.

Monday we did some catch-up work

Tuesday ... here is the question for tuesday

Thursday, March 22, 2018

Wed and Thursday

  1. Do not spend time on attempting to blame someone or something.
  2. State the problem clearly.
  3. Consider possible sources of help in solving the problem. List names of people who could help solve the problem.
  4. Study the problem in a calm manner. Think of possible solutions. Make a list of possible solutions.
  5. List the consequences that follow from each possible solution. For example, "if I do that, this will probably happen".
  6. Select the best possible solution or solutions.
  7. Follow through with the best possible solution or solutions.

These were the things we had to think about when trying to help out for our case study we are doing today and moving forward.

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

Tuesday March 20

We worked on the second part of U2A5 ... where we all got to talk about body language and active listening.

It was cool.

Not good body language
